The Gods of Faengleis

Before the coming of the Outer Dark, when the lands of Godsfall were sealed away...

Before the Holy War, when the world was a battlefield for the eternal struggle between the celestials and the infernals...

Before there was sky or sun or land and all the Gods lay outside the dreams of starlight...

Before anything, there was the Great Azuri.  She was magic incarnate and she believed that creation was and so creation became, to please her.  She kissed the fog of eternity and it gathered into the sun and the moon and the world.  She named the sun and it shone brightly with pride.  She named then the moon, and it shone dimmer and with less brilliance, for it was consumed with jealousy that its sister should have been named first.  She named all that was not the sun or moon or world and it was at peace.  All that she did not name wept not to know her voice.

So were born the Cardinal Gods, the Four Glories, tasked by Great Azuri to ensure that creation would endure and cause would always be followed by effect.

Looking down upon the world, she cupped it in her hand and breathed life into it.  From her head, she plucked four hairs and tied them about the world.  They blossomed into the Primal Goddesses and desire filled them.  They wished to be content, to know peace and kindness, to possess passion and wealth.  Seeing this, Azuri drew out four drops of her blood and dripped them onto the face of the world.  They congealed into the Primal Gods and desire filled them.  They wished to change the world about them, to have freedom and justice, to gain cunning and power.

The world was strong now, and prepared for life, but Azuri knew her time was short.  Wishing to leave a last shard of herself, she lay with the four Primal Gods born of her blood and had a daughter by each, leaving them in the care of the Glories.

Then, turning towards new creations, Great Azuri made herself no more.
